Do I Need Storage Insurance?
At My Affordable RV & Boat Storage, insurance or tenant protection is required to rent a unit. You can either use an existing homeowners or renters insurance policy or enroll in our Tenant Protection Plan through Thrifty Storage for added peace of mind.
What Does the Tenant Protection Plan Cover?
Our Tenant Protection Plan offers benefits beyond standard insurance, including no deductible, full replacement cost, and coverage for a wide range of incidents:
- No Deductible on claims
- Replacement Cost for lost or damaged items
- Protection against Fire
- Coverage for Theft
- Safeguarding against Windstorm
- Protection in case of Firestorm
- Coverage for Water damage from leaks
- Protection against Rodent damage
This plan is designed to provide comprehensive protection for your stored belongings so you can store with confidence.
How Much Does the Tenant Protection Plan Cost?
We offer flexible options based on your coverage needs:
- Plans start at $7 per month for small units with $1,000 of coverage
- Plans go up to $26 per month for $5,000 of coverage
This allows you to choose the right level of protection for your items.
Can I Use Homeowners or Renters Insurance?
Homeowners insurance often covers storage units, but you should review your policy to confirm exactly what’s included. If your items aren’t covered, consider adding coverage through your insurance provider or via a third-party protection plan. Renters insurance typically provides off-premises coverage, which may include storage units. Keep in mind your policy may only cover a percentage of the value or have a high deductible. Supplemental coverage through your insurer or our Tenant Protection Plan can help fill any gaps.
What About Vehicle Storage?
For outdoor RV or boat parking, insurance is not required at this time. However, we highly recommend maintaining your auto or boat insurance while your vehicle is stored.
For vehicles stored inside an enclosed storage unit, insurance or our Tenant Protection Plan is required. Our plan meets lease requirements and offers added protection, giving you peace of mind while your vehicle is in storage.
